History of UTK SHRM

UTK SHRM was established in 2002 by Dr. Debbie Mackey, the original and consistent faculty advisor for UTK SHRM. The chapter has grown and developed year after year, garnering eight "Superior Chapter" distinguishments and, more recently, five "Outstanding Chapter" distinguishments from the SHRM parent organization. UTK SHRM has won the business case competition three times, most recently in 2015. Each year the organization grows in its membership, the most recent growth involving 47% more members than the year before, with fifty five members.

About our Faculty Advisor Dr. Debbie Mackey

Debbie Mackey has been the advisor for UT SHRM since the year 2000. To increase students' potential for excellent job placement, she develops contacts and identifies employment opportunities across the country. She works very hard to assist students in gaining a better understanding of their role as human resource professionals and networking with those already in the profession. Debbie is very dedicated to helping students study and obtain funding for the SHRM games, and she hosted the Southeast Regional games in 2006 and 2008. She has received numerous awards for her outstanding dedication to students, including the National Faculty Advisor of the Year Award (2013), the State of Tennessee James House Williamson Award (2014), Outstanding Commitment to Student Award at UT (2008), the McKamey Scholar award (2009-2011); and the Outstanding Service and Commitment to SHRM (2005).
